Castle Ruins

*************************************************************

(Ride...Ride...Ride...Ride...)

It conjures images up like the ghosts of yesterday
Here comes that feeling again, maybe this time it's here to stay...

Seems like I've been here before the sense of deja vu intrudes
And memories of a bloodier past - rise from still waters...

I see the faces of men who haven't walked the earth
In a thousand years
Their dreams of empire ground to dust...

And the souls of the slain at last find vengeance
On kings and queens
Their crowns of gold turned to rust...

In the Castle Ruins - beneath a dying sun
The vision came to me more real than any dream

In the Castle Ruins - beneath a dying sun
The vision came to me more real than any dream

(Ride...Ride...Ride...Ride...)

I'll just step back in the past
I'll just vanish in the mists of time...
I'll just step back in the past
I'll just vanish in the mists of time...

...My armour weighs like stone...
...My sword is stained with blood...
...My horse is slain beneath me...
...My heart is filled with pain...
...Oh, my head it burns like fire...
...My fists are clenched in rage...
...And I feel a sense of loss...
...My madness overwhelms me...

I'll just step back in the past
I'll just vanish in the mists of time...
I'll just step back in the past
I'll just vanish in the mists of time...

...Hallucinations pouring in...
...Through a rift unto the Other...
...Now I'm not divide in two...
...With tears in my eyes, I embrace my brother*...

I'll just step back in the past
I'll just vanish in the mists of time...
I'll just step back in the past
I'll just vanish in the mists of time...

( * a brief note - the idea of being divided in two was based on
a story in the Earthsea Chronicles by Ursula K. Le Guin. In this
story the protagonist is chased relentlessly by a shadow, who he
flees from in terror. Finally forced to turn and face it, they reach for
each other but the fight turns to an embrace and they merge
into one being as he realizes the shadow was only his darker half...

to perhaps over-simplify, a coming to
terms with one's id, ego and superego.)
